I recently started working at Cyral as a software engineer! This wasn’t really the plan, but it is a dream come true. I have always been interested in the startup life, and I have always wanted to get a job here in the U.S. I just did not think it would be “my best bet” to count on getting a job, especially given how hard it is to find an entry level job for internationals in that market (and don’t even get me started about the graduating-during-COVID part).

Anyway, here I am. Living my dream. I did not really know what was in store for me, except that this is supposed to be a startup that is doing really well, and that I am supposed to be good at programming (I don’t feel that way at the time of writing this, but we will get to that later). I first started working remotely on an open source project called Approzium, and I found that I was working close to, on average, 12 hours a day, sometimes all day. And I was healthy and happy to do this, because I was enjoying both the work and the team so much.
